I'm the idiot? We have an athletic director who just fired a coach who has won the Pac-10 3 straight years. Why did she fire him?
Her defenders are defending her based only on speculation - maybe there will be sanctions down the road. Here's some information for you - right now there are no sanctions. That excuse is garbage. If that was the answer, why isn't Lisa Love saying "we foresee the baseball program will be sanctioned because of actions of Pat Murphy, so we got rid of him"????? WHY NOT DEFEND YOUR ACTIONS?
If there are going to be sanctions, let it be known so it's less of a story. Much better for everybody to know about them in advance, and know that you've already done something, than to just wait until they come and then try to say firing your coach was done for that reason.
Even if LL did fire Murph for potential sanctions (which I 100% believe is NOT the case), she's still mishandling the situation.
She is incompetent in her management of the ASU athletic department. Her silence is unacceptable to this fan, who she expects to CONTINUE to donate money to ASU athletics? Not when you mishandle ASU baseball baby. My checkbook isn't going to open again until LL is gone or some new information proves I was wrong AND she couldn't have handled the situation better for some reason.
As it stands, I don't see an excuse in the world for why LL hasn't come out to defend her decision to can the only coach in Pac-10 history to win 3 straight Pac-10 titles - and she fires him while the streak is ongoing? Not only that, by firing Murphy, Lisa Love burned the only bridge to the best Sun Devil in the majors today (Pedroia), most likely to several others (Ethier comes to mind), and maybe ruined the relationship that Murphy repaired with Barry Bonds. Think that stuff is insignificant?
I don't understand why there isn't more outrage from you who claim to be ASU baseball fans. Like Murphy or not, our program has been absolutely unbelievable for the past 3 years, and his relationships with big-time baseball names was invaluable.
Now our hopes rest on an incompetent AD. I don't like where this is heading.
