Let's assume the MLB's farm system is killed.
Could the current college teams handle the influx of players? If not, would a new, independent semi-pro baseball league spring up? Would more colleges start baseball programs?
If no colleges start new programs and no alternative pro league starts, you would assume a lot of high school baseball talent simply wouldn't play at the next level.
Another point: NFL and NBA already rely heavily on the college system for player development. MLB (and, I believe, to a lesser extent NHL) have these farm systems that cost them a lot of money. I've always thought MLB and NHL would eventually balk at picking up the tab for player development when NFL and NBA were getting it for free.
