absolutely agree. When U4 was simply in Omaha - forget doing well and getting to the "finals" - it was more than irritating, and of course I was jealous.
I don't have a feel for Anderson. Any AD has an incredibly difficult position, mainly because you have too many "constituencies". Michael Crow, the "general" fans, the deep pocket boosters, the HC's for the plus money sports (let's hope CBH stays, and keeps ASU's BBall program as a plus money sport), etc. My sense is that Anderson is pretty adroit in dealing with all of the dynamics.
Of course, the one area - apparently - out of his domain, is the PAC12 Conference, including the media. I think the school Presidents have screwed that up. I am assuming Anderson did not have a say in hiring L. Scott, and allowing the (failed) empire building strategy.
