there were several questionable coaching decisions.
But to me - the worst......
Taking Corrigan out, when there were 2 outs, and 2 on, in the 7th, and bringing in Levine was just stupid - unless Corrigan indicated that he could not go on.
I get that Corrigan had given up 2 hits, but he was not struggling, and there were 2 outs. Bringing in anyone - who, presumably, gets 1 out to end the inning - was not an efficient use of pitching.
But CTS brings in Levine - arguably ASU's best reliever/closer.
Yet then, Levine can't find the strike zone. CTS is then "set" in the decision - i.e., he can't yank Levine after only 1 or 2 walks, because he has likely diminished Levine's effectiveness for tomorrow's game - presumably vs. UT. So CTS thinks - Levine can still get out of this and finish the game; so I will just leave him in. Then the meltdown.
Bottom line, following a 19 pitch outing, Levine is unlikely to contribute meaningful tomorrow night. Thank goodness that Glenn was effective.
Assuming Fall goes tomorrow night, I don't know who remains available in the BP, for long or short stints.
In my view, Corrigan should have been allowed to face at least one more batter.
Also - Baez needs to sit tomorrow. Let Ferri start at catcher.
