(82): . . . let's consider your suggested "adjustment" in the game where you believe it should have been made. ASU was right in it until about the last 12 or so minutes, when Florida really began making 3s that not only killed any rally ASU made but helped Florida to pull away some.

By then, JP had 3 or 4 fouls. If you take Glasser and put him right up on Calathes or put somebody right up on Parsons or the other guy who hit a bunch of 3s you ask for a couple of things. First, Calathes or one of those other guys may be able to simply put it on the floor and drive around his man (i.e., Shipp, Kuksiks or Glasser, none of whom are particularly quick) leaving JP to clena it up at the hoop, which would add to his foul trouble. Or, you create space behind the outside defenders where another guy can come off a screen and take a pass going to the hoop -- meaning (again) JP has to clean it up at the hoop and take a chance on fouling out.

When you have about 4 decent big to semi-big guys who can give minutes and, more importantly, 20 fouls, maybe you do that. When it's going to mean the early exit from the game of your first or second most important player, you don't. You use the zone, hope to disrupt the 3 point shooters as best you can, and hope they miss some. Florida just had too many guys who could hit it with regularity.
