ASU is in the Elite Eight for the 2nd time in 3 yrs but make no mistake they have a monumental task facing them tonite.Top ranked all season long & overall #1 seed, 36-0 UConn Huskies await the Sun Devils and we have to play them basically in their backyard so it's no wonder all those posters on the Rebkell WBB board are ridiculing are chances of even being competitive.
Well, first off when the tournament started I mentioned that I hoped the Sun Devils (noticed that I didn't say Lady Devils that's because they don't refer to themselves as Lady Devils just Sun Devils like all of ASU athletic teams) would make us proud and they have done exactly that regardless what happens tonite.
Some Stanford fans are ridiculing are chances against UConn.I suppose they are eagerly awaiting their shot at UConn but like I said ASU deserves to be in the Elite Eight, after all we didn't get to play UCSB & SDST in San Diego then move over to Berkeley to play Ohio St & Iowa St, as a matter of fact watching Stanford demolish Iowa St last night I really feel if ASU would have had that Elite Eight matchup with Iowa St, ASU would be making their first Final Four appearance but it is what it is and we're matched up against mighty UConn.
UConn are led by some impressive players 6-4 center Tina Charles, 6-0 Maya Moore and 5-7 PG Renee Montgomery, all three are certain to attain All-American status this year.I remember watching Tina Charles & Maya Moore in the Nike tournament in Chandler a few yrs ago, they were great players then they're sensational players now.I think Maya Moore is the odds on favorite to be the player of the year in WBB this year.
UConn beat Rutgers 69-59 to end the regular season that is as close as anybody has played them but they did play Florida St in Dec winning 83-71 and of course they did beat Cal the other day 77-53,they led Cal at half time 35-33 but outscored Cal 42-20 in the 2nd half, that's fine and dandy but you know it's not like ASU has never played anybody really good.I remember playing UConn a few yrs back, playing top ranked Tennessee with Candice Parker a couple of years ago. I think ASU will give it their best shot and I really don't think they're going to be intimidated by UConn so that being said, "bring it on."
