: Bri January was taken by the Indiana Fever as the 6th pick in the WNBA draft.I can't believe the Phx Mercury passed on her and took DeWanna Bonner with the 5th pick.
: Well, at least I will save some money by passing on Mercury season tickets this year!
: Pac 10 notes, as posted last night Mark Trakh resigned as head coach at USC, so no doubt the Wynn family will take over at Long Beach St, there was a strong rumor that Trakh had applied for the LBST job, his alma mater, yet LBST selected Trakh assistant at USC Jody Wynn.I wonder if Trakh will go over there as a assistant?

I just wasn't sure where the Mercury could find the minutes for Bri, with Taurasi and Pondexter already in the backcourt. Drafting fifth, you have to get an impact player, and I don't think Bri could have had much impact if they were struggling to find her playing time.
Nothing against Meg, but isn't it about time for the Pac-10, especially USC, to make a splash with a coahcing hire? There's no question Trakh resigned under pressure, yet he posted a winning record each of his five years there. It's pretty obvious SC still sees itself as being part of the women's basketball elite. They have a talented roster, a great on-campus arena, championship banners and retired jerseys. They ought to at least gauge national interest in the job.
The past few years, the Pac-10 has hired assistants from other programs, or, in the case of Oregon, hired someone who is more novelty than he is long term. Three teams from this league got into the NCAA's, and only one other got into postseason. It's time for the Pac-10 to stop being the league where assistants come to get on the job head coaching training. Duke didn't hire an assistant, Arkansas didn't, neither did Texas.
Again, you're right on target about Meg, but big-time conferences and name programs don't hire assistants. Mid-majors do, and the Pac-10 is starting to look more like a mid-major conference in Women's Basketball with each passing day.
