Thought I would post some WBB notes in case somebody is interested, there has been nothing posted on this site in almost 2 months.I know it's the dog days of summer but there has been alot of new & exciting things happening at ASU.
First off, Charli as most of you know is in Belgrade, Serbia coaching the USA World team, she was selected as head coach. USA team is 6-0 and will play Russia who is also undefeated tomorrow for the gold medal, game is slated to start Saturday at 3 pm Serbia time which would be 6 am Tempe time. Good luck to Charli and the USA team!
New basketball practice facility is open for business!
Weatherup Center is a fabulous state of the arts facility. I was fortunate to be given a personal tour of the new digs and have been down there to watch the girls play a pickup game when they have open gym.I can't get over all the big flat screen TV's they have in that place, although cable has not been hooked up yet.
You walk up the stairs and they have a beautiful lobby overlooking the Softball Stadium, with 2 flat screen TV's hanging on the walls, one on each side.Men's side is on the West and WBB is on the East, a mirror image of each other.Offices are huge compared to what they had at the old place, if you can call the Carson center old!I was watching the girls play from the balcony and they have a great sound system, though I don't care for that loud hip hop music but Like I said it's just a fabulous place!
2009-10 WBB schedule is out.I will post the entire schedule at the end of this post but some highligts.ASU opens the regular season at home against South Dskota St, they will go to Hawaii during the Thanksgiving holiday and play in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.ASU will meet Baylor and have a rematch with Texas A&M in Dec at the Desert Sun Classic in Las Vegas.
Some Pac 10 notes,Cal has joined AU with some defections from their programs.Kelsey Adrain, Angelei Aguirre and Casey Morris have transferred out of Cal but Cal does have a great incoming freshman class.I will say one thing, it's hard to win with a freshman class just ask Tennessee, but we'll see how things go for them this season!
Recruiting is heating up since we're in July and ASU is after some top talent hopefully things will go good for them and they will get some great recruits. Softball has picked up some great recruits.Hillary Bach & Megan Elliott have been playing in some summer tournaments, according to reports I have been getting Megan has been looking very good pitching for a team in the ongoing Canada Cup. So for you softball fans, don't bail out on Megan yet she could have a great senior year!
