: remember when the asu sections would chant "bobbi's dead" to lute? And about Steve Kerr's military dad dying in Beirut?
: it takes a special level of crassness to ORGANIZE chants about player's dead relatives. Never did anyone utter a breath about Tillman.
: you already know every fanbase has more than its share of individual jackasses. I've even witnessed your beloved Sun Devils picking fights *GASP*.
: not to mention the all racially motivated Nogales/Mexico comments and sign we see nearly all the time.
: not saying we are any order of magnitude classier than you Devils, but to act as if we the sole barbarians is laughable.

: : I don't really want to get into this too much, but I have to get this off my chest. There are countless posts after every football/basktetball game about the lack of class and downright horrible behaviour exhibited by some AU fans. I also realize that bad fans are part of every college athletic culture. Last night we once again experienced what seems to be an epidemic within the AU fan base. Families with children having to move or leave early due to horrible language and downright verbal abuse. Maybe we're just unlucky the past few years, but I'm getting to the point where I refuse to bring family members with me to the rival games anymore due to this problem! This rivalry brings out the very immature and ugly side of people. I'm sure there are bad apples within the ASU fan base, but I can't believe the behaviour exhibited last night by a few really irresponsible people on the AU side.
: : Rant over and thanks for listening.
: : And to our team and program. We are very proud of everyone on this team. Even with this loss, it's so incredibly exciting to have a program on the up. Thank you coach for building something special here in Tempe, and thank you to all the players that work so hard for our program and university!
: : Go Devils!
Obviously, those comments you're referring to are completely unacceptable.
Like I stated previously, it may be our luck at play here. 20 years of ASU/AU athletics, and I've witnessed more unacceptable behaviour coming from one side than the other. I've never personally witnessed ASU fans completely ignore the request of parents to please tone it down. I've experienced, more than once, AU fans not caring one bit that children were in the immediate area and that there should be restraint in those circumstances. There were three families having issues with a group of 20 or so AU fans. Even an elderly couple had politely asked for some restraint. No courtesy was granted. None of those "fans" cared about the kids in the area. I already admitted there are bad fans within every base. My personal experience has lead me to the feeling that I simply can't be with family while attending games between these two schools. This is terrible, and I felt compeled to share my frustration that one cannot bring children to this type of game without having to worry about the language and verbal assault that may occur. I admitted it was a "rant". If you feel differently, that's fine. And by the way, if these were ASU fans, I and many others in the area would have politely asked that they calm down as well. I'm not saying all AU fans are bad. From our experience, we've just had too many bad experiences and we are beyond frustrated.
