Here in lies the problem with Sun Devil basketball. When they are really good (Harden's second season) they draw fans. I went to the UCLA game that year and it was sold out or close to it and the place was rocking. It was a great college atmosphere. It is understandable that when we are bad we don't get fans. But the real problem lies in years like this where we are competitive and deserve support but can't even get 7,000 fans in the stands. Even last year when we were a tournament team, the ua game is the only one that drew over 10,000 and that doesn't really count because of all the ua fans. No other PAC-12 games even drew 9,000 fans in a year that we went to the tournament.
On the bright side I do think things are looking up. The Curtain of Distraction is awesome and is gaining national recognition. By 12-year old son wants to go to ASU so he can be part of the 942 crew and the Curtain. Sendek needs to sell the Curtain to recruits. Plus getting the students involved is what starts that fan base. We have a bunch of alum in the Phoenix area that never attended games as a student so they don't have that desire to support the team now. The 942 crew will be at games even after graduation. That's how you build a fan base. Make going to games as a student a cool thing to do.
: Hit the wrong key on the previous post before I got my message written.
: It was very disappointing to see WFA less than half filled for the final regular season game for our three seniors. A 12:30 start on a Saturday should allow for Sun Devil fans to make the game if for no other reason than to send the seniors out with a good crowd.
: And we wonder why 5 stars go elsewhere?
