Did Herb explain why he kept rotating Gilling and Jacobsen late in the 2nd half and keep Blakes on the bench? These were just head scratchers to me, and the alumni sitting near me. Blakes brings energy to the team. Jacobsen was not in foul trouble. USCís Jovanovic had four fouls. Herb kept rotating Gilling in for O, Jacobsen for D. But, of course, we couldnít hit a shot so Gilling was forced to play D. USC played zone and we had NO inside presence. Andy Enfield must have been laughing when we didnít even challenge Jovanovic. And, you guessed it, McKissic late game drive to the basket was blocked by none other than Jovanovic. Barnes played a lot. Our D really isnít as good when Barnes and Gilling are on the floor. They fast-braked us to death.
Hearsay, but was told by more than one alum that our AD stormed out of his seat, pissed, after the final buzzer.
Itís been said a million times, but worth repeating again Ė Herb would be a great fit for an Ivy league school. Our AD is in a tough position. Herb is well liked in the coaching fraternity. A firing will not go over well.
Side notes: I hope the PAC gets to play in the new Vegas arena. The MGM portable seats are worse than seats at Wrigley Field. The MW tourney is always entertaining. Good arena too (Thomas and Mack). CSU got royally screwed out of a bid. They did lose their best player in the quarters. And his return was questionable. Maybe that had something to do with their snub Ė although thatís a lame reason to keep them out.
And finally, I canít count how many times rat fans came up to us telling us how sad they were for us and ďgo getemí next yearĒ. It was like a pity party. Talk about condescending. Took all my might not to slug some of them.
