: : : : : I was watching their game on tv last night against New Mexico St. I have to say I was impressed. Their arena was packed, not an empty seat in the house. Capacity is around 7,000. The crowd was loud and very into the game. Huge student section. A real home court advantage. They have some big wins this season. Majerle has that program heading in the right direction.
: : : : --------------------------------------------------
: : : : NMSU is the ua of the WAC. They draw the biggest crowd when they come to town. They draw in the 4000's for most games when they don't give away tickets. They have won big with some nice wins. SDSU & Houston. Remember Jerry C. is the sugar daddy for the basketball program. He wants Majerle to suceed to show up the Suns. But remember they are in a low major conference. We bring teams they play in conference for our non conference season for wins. Who would you want to see NMSU, Utah valley etc or ua, UCLA, Oregon?
: : : -----------------------------------------------I think the point of this post is more about how GCU can get 7,000 in to see any game and ASU can only get over 7,000 for UofA.

: : If you read my post again GCU gets 7000 for NMSU, the top team in the WAC for the last two years. Otherwise it is in the 4000 range for most games but their opener, when they gave away a bunch of tickets. A friend asked me if I wanted to go to a game there, he could get free tickets. I can see their games on cox 7 I told him and they don't play anyone I would want to see except NMSU( A team who is a midmajor stuck in a low major conference, when all the other WAC schools who played football went to the Mt. West.) I gave GCU credit for going on the road and beat a SDSU & Houston. It is amazing they do draw that well but I know they sell season tickets for a lower price than ASU does. I wish ASU would draw better but they don't really advertise the games and that is on ASU. Our draw of 8000+ for ua is due to being the day after ASU's bowl game that ended at 12:30AM, that had 35000+ fans who weren't getting up to go to the BB game next day at noon. I know I passed on the FB game to go to the BB game. I know others that had to make a decision as to which game to go to. Students were on break and it was probably good that maybe 1000 showed up since most games during the break only 200 would bother to be there. Other years when the ua game is not a day after a bowl game, the weekend of New Years and school is in session it draws around capacity, 10,000+.

Let's keep in mind ASU's enrollment is 80,000+ and GCU's enrollment is about 10,000. ASU alumni ratio is probably even greater. I'm not sure we have enough basketball fans to fill a 7,000 seat arena game in game out. BTW, I did attend the Cactus Bowl and the basketball game the next day. I think the Cardinal's game hurt attendance more as I know a lot of fans that have season tickets to both.
