I have taken a week to think about the season and this last game. au was the worst matchup for the Devils. They are big and strong inside where we are the weakest. The only chance we had to win were to 1) Outrun them down the court for layups. We haven't tried to run, despite the preseason talk, since early in the non conference. Lack of depth certainly is a factor in that. 2) We would need to make 3's consistently the whole game. We only do that in limited stretches. That happened in the first half when we got the lead then went away. When we do get open shots inside this team often misses easy shots. In prior posts others are saying Sendek did not recruit bigs. Only partially correct. Remember Connor MacDougall was on this team but was going leave but waited to see who the new coach was. Hurley did not impress him or did not want him, as he went to SCC and has committed (signed) with New Mexico. Andre Adams was recruited by the prior staff and Hurley signed him. Bad luck that he tore his ACL again so he sits at the end of bench red shirting. Also they had a HS center committed out of LA but the new staff dropped him. I also think Hurley is learning on the job. He had 2 years at a low major program as a head coach and now one year in a top 5 conference. He is learning what it is like to coach at this level. The good news is he has an experienced assistant coach in Rashon Burno who was an assistant at Florida when they won 2 national championships. He was the recruiter for our two most recent commits. With Brian Merrit's contacts it is giving us a chance to land some top recruits. Would we have a better record under Sendek, I think we would have, but that is water under the bridge. Hurley is the coach. What the future for the program holds all depends on the quality and number of recruits along with how quickly the staff and players can learn to play at this level. I have been a season ticket holder for seven head coaches and a couple of interim's and I will be there again next season to see how we progress.
