but was self inflicted with the introduction of those Guard U t-shirts! Nationwide, people took offense to what they saw as a shameless self promotion from a squad 12 games into the season.
Every school in the Pac-12 had a huge chip on their shoulder when they played Guard U. Pac-12 officials made calls or refrained from making calls on the ASU guards that differentiated their games from other Pac-12 games. Even more importantly, every loss that piled up made it more difficult for Guard U to shoulder that burden. They were now being seen as not worthy of the title they had bestowed on themselves.
I don't know the exact origin of that idea and those t-shirts, but if the Devils do make the dance I hope those shirts are tucked away in the closet and the team spends the week off getting back in touch with what got them to that #3 ranking in the first place. That team really was special to watch...but something got lost in the hype!
: That's what I thought toward the end of the game. Missing shots we should make. Very disappointed. The team I saw in Vegas in November has lost that swagger. They will have to wait to Sunday to see their fate. Joe Lunardi has them the last 4 in. I would take that. It is still in the Big Dance. The pressure will be off that they have made the Dance. Playing in Dayton before few Sun Devil fans, it will be like playing at Kansas. I heard Tim say on the radio that ASU did not think they would be in NIT so they did not bid to host a game. Even though we would be a high seed in NIT for just missing the Dance, they will be sent some where else to play. As bad as the regular season and PAC-12 tourney ended, the future is bright for next season. I will have more to post on stories I read about Valtonen and Dort in National Prep School Invitational. As a side note there is a lot of crap being posted on the football board by some people who would be more at home posting on the recruiting boards. I thought about posting there to correct statements but I have better things to do than spending my time replying to them.
