You are mistaken. We were not initially told the FBI had a recording of Miller offering $100k for a player and that all payments had to go through him. There is no mention of Sean Miller anywhere on the initial FBI release, though other head coaches like Rick Pitino are mentioned. The claim that Miller said all payments went through him and Arizona offered $100k to a player (Ayton) was only ever made by ESPN reporter Mark Schlabach. And this claim has been refuted by sworn statements by Ayton, his family, and Miller during his televised press conference.
I'll ask again, if the FBI had definitive proof of Arizona paying players through Book, why wasn't this included on his indictment? If there was proof former Arizona assistant Joe Pasternack was paying players, why wasn't he indicted? And if there was proof Pasternack, Book, and Miller were involved in paying players and the FBI had the tapes or paper trail to show this, why wasn't any of this included in the initial FBI release that happened about a year ago?
None of this means Arizona didn't pay players. But there is still no smoking gun and third party hearsay doesn't carry much weight.
