Why can't you "figure this out"? Last year was the same thing (beat KU at home then lost to Princeton). Year before that 12-0 ranked #3, then go below .500 in a week PAC-12.
Hurley's system breeds inconsistency. There is little offensive structure to fall back on and get good looks. It is all based on creativity and freedom. When that is working (especially in the non-con when teams have not played us before and don't really scout) it looks and works great. When teams have seen us before and know how to defend it, we do not execute to get good shots. And clearly Hurley does not hold them accountable for this because it has been going on unfettered for years.
: How do you come within a missed shot or two from beating a ranked, unbeaten, big school, defending champ one night and then need a last second shot to beat a winless Ivy then next?
: Our defense is pretty consistently good, but our offensive production is so hot and cold... cold mostly.
