Didn't see a 40 point loss coming, but this is what we are. A poorly coached team that is wildly inconsistent. There is no discipline in valuing possessions either offensively or defensively. We will defend doggedly 40 feet from the basket, and then allow the guy to penetrate. When he does our defender just watches him score like he is thinking, "Oh I will get him next time". Almost all of our players would rather make the spectacular play a few times a game, than the smart, right play most of the time. Offensively we take shots that scream of impatience and "oh well if this doesn't go in we'll get the ball back in a minute or so anyway". No valuing of individual possessions.
Watching this game and seeing Randy Bennett's players run an offense based on sharing the ball and making extra passes to get open shots for shooters that were set up and ready to catch and shoot should have terrified and opened fans eyes to the stark contrast in how we play basketball. But instead, much like Hurley has said, most fans just think they shot better than us. There is a reason they shoot better. They take better shots. There is a reason they take better shots. They run an offense to create those better shots. And that is 100% on the coach.
: Figured Creighton would be a test. Maybe looking past St. Marys. Dunno.
