What frustrates me about this team and Remy in particular is that they can't seem to handle success with any sort of mental toughness. As soon as Remy makes a few tough shots, he gets overexcited and takes more. As soon as we hit a few threes and make a nice run, we let up defensively and give up a run right back. This happens game to game and within games. Just no consistency.
And not to beat a dead horse, but since this has been a recurring theme for the last 3 seasons now, I think it is a coaching issue. Hurley needs to find a way to balance giving these guys freedom, with the discipline to play intelligently.
I honestly believe this team has top 5 talent in this conference. And when you consider how much more experienced our top talent is we are top 3 easily. Hurley needs to get this team to consistently play to their ability.
: Devils finish 9-4. I had hoped team would get their act together during non conference. This last game showed signs of that except the injury to Melo may have derailed that. Coach Hurley talked about team being more like Guard U of two years ago. I was hoping that it would be somewhere between that and last years team. Hoping the ankle injury to Melo is just a sprain but that can be bad in itself. At least this team showed signs it can be a better outside shooting team last night than we have seen so far this season. Having the first 3 games on the road could be a killer. Winning one would be good, two would be great. The St Mary's game was horrible except for Verge going off. Creighton is a good team, but we could have won if we played better. Beating St John's and almost knocking off Virginia were positives. With the exception of St Mary's, Remy and Melo have been as expected. The last game Cherry and Lawrence were better but still not what I had hoped. Verge has become what I had wanted. Thomas has shown promise at times but not what I think he can be. Pleasant surprise has been House and Graham until the concussion for Graham. Edwards needs to step up his game. Mitchell coming back and contributing is a plus. Allen may help if he comes back from his hip injury. Conference is better so making dance will not be easy.
