: To me, the likelihood that Duke sees CBH as being "on deck" is a real stretch. He has not demonstrated consistent success - recruiting, games, etc. - to warrant such consideration. If I were Duke, I would throw wheelbarrows of money at Mark Few.

: Coach K is like Lute Olson - singlehandedly re-positioning a mediocre program. U4 has been able to sustain much of the success under Miller (who was still able to recruit a good class for this year), but we will have to see where that goes.

: I also think CBH has earned some slack at ASU. Last year's team - with Cheatham, White, etc., would have been his best team in the Tournament, and would be 3 years in a row for invites. And we have the "unruly ASU alum" incident with CBH's spouse. And losing Burno. Maybe CBH is ready to take a year off.

: I agree with your take on this season. This team could have been really entertaining - even without White.

: So - I don't see CBH going anywhere, but he does have a real challenge in re-stocking the cupboard.

: I am sorry to see Cherry go - I don't know where his head is, and I think "where his head is" defines the issue. When he is/was engaged, I loved his enthusiasm. Graham, Woods, and Muhammad are the core for next year, plus anyone who returns - Lawrence? Martin? I don't understand how the NBA could take Bagley and Christopher, based on their ASU experience. I suppose the real scouts follow the club circuits.

: Success in the transfer portal for ASU will essential. (I know - a firm grasp of the obvious.)

But we must think of the scenario if this year would have gone as expected. Going into this season, Hurly might have had a chance. He had elevated ASU to tournament status. Last year should have been another Dance. By now, he expected to have a resume that included another winning season, some good recruiting classes and placing Dort, Christopher and Bagley in the NBA.

If Hurley ever had a chance to jump directly from ASU to Duke it would have been if this season would have met expectations. At least his agent might have been able to place him in a higher intermediate position much like ASU was a rung up from Buffalo. Hurley went all-out to win big this year when he brought in 2 kids that he knew were only here for one year. Now, unless a miracle happens, next year will probably be another mediocre season. A couple bad years in a roll and he is stuck at ASU waiting to be fired like Larry Krystkowiak.
