I used to feel the same way... Let's schedule some "pre-season" games in order to get our team humming.
Well, after last season, when we had to kick SIX FIELDGOALS against the massive defense of IDAHO-FREAKIN-STATE, I began to change my opinion about these tune-up games helping that much. Our offense was very bad, and no amount of scheduling the 'Sisters of Poor' Community College games was going to help that.
In fact, I think these games may prove a bit detrimental as you aren't really able to get a good handle on where your teams stands until you are four or five games into the season.
I'm not advocating scheduling Texas, Florida, and Ohio State for our three non-conf games, but outside of NAU every other year, I don't think we should schedule any teams that are outside of our BCS subdivision.
