I lived in The City during the Oakland Hills fire, 91 I think, and was down in Newport for a number of fires in Riverside & San Bernardino County over the years, mostly inland, with one smaller one between Newport & Laguna in 94 near the coast. Never had any fire damage fortunately, but very impacted by the smoke several times.

Along the coast, the offshore breeze usually blows off the coast and inland, but when the Santa Ana winds hit in So Cal, it not only aggravates the fires by drying things out and helping the fires spread, but the wind blows toward the coast. I recall being in some terrible smoke, ashes everywhere, unhealthy breathing.

In all those experiences, I never experienced it so bad they would cancel a hoops game indoors. It must really be something right now. I feel for the folks in Paradise, etc.

Outdoor pets were a big concern too, no one brings up much, but bad situation for outdoor dogs, cats, horses, etc.
