Yes - Teddy Bruschi picking up that fumble. The ol' DiamondVision screen was showing a pitchfork blowing away a Cat with about 7 minutes left to go with ASU up 28-14 almost seemed to jinx the whole thing...
I thought yesterday's game was more of a mirror image of the '94 game in Tucson the year before (my first trip to a rivalry game in Tucson), only with the shoe on the other foot.
ASU (3-7) wasn't supposed to have a chance to win that game against a ranked AU team (#16) but was inexplicably up 27-15 in the 2nd half.
Then AU's starting RB got injured - and the Cats suddenly seemed to wake up to "win one for Billy Bob". They fought back and took the lead by one point - 28-27 (they couldn't convert on the 2-point attempt to go up by 3), with about four minutes to go.
ASU got the ball back for one last drive and finally started a slow, grinding drive towards the same south end zone. ASU then trotted out barefoot kicker Jon Baker for a 47 yard FG attempt (which was long for him). Baker missed it as time expired - wide right.
Eerily similar games - just flip-flopped.
It took almost a quarter century, but the karmic scales were finally balanced out yesterday.
