NDSU is the type of program that first attracted me to college football. It recruits a lot of regional players that love football and want to be challenged to see just how good they can be. Blue collar kids that work hard to develop to their full potential. Then they step into a starting or support role. The coaching staff does an excellent job of selecting such kids and then training them.
Through the years (I guess now it's decades) I have followed such programs as ASU, Wyoming, Fresno State and a few others for the same reason. To me, these are the essence of what college football should be. Follow recruiting. Pick kids to watch develop. watch them pass the team and school culture to the next crop of new recruits. Contrast that to USC. Kids sign up for Show Time and have agents waiting in the wings. If they fail to get instant notoriety, they transfer. I find that hard to love.
