It is not certain that Daniels will win the starting job just as so many other highly touted QBs have failed to do over the past several years at ASU. We have lacked a legitimate QB coach for a while now. The team does have the services of one Danny White, however, I'm not sure he coaches players directly. He certainly does have input though and that could help to take the edge off.
Duel threat QB's often tuck and run much more often than traditional passing QBs and this along with the increased likelihood of injury makes me a bit leery of duel threat QBs. Daniels does have eye-popping stats but there is a big difference between High School and P-12 football.
Likens has garnered a bit of a bad rep by some of the fans this year, but some may not realize that he's had to work around the obvious limitations of certain personnel this year. We've lacked an accurate deep-threat passing capability these past few years and our opponents simply loaded the box and dared us to go over the top. Your point is well taken. It is critical for the Devils to develop a legitimate deep passing threat or we will remain mired in mediocrity. QB development is crucial for success. We'll just have to wait and see who wins the job and how they progress.
I think it's still a bit too early to accurately rate Likens' skills. Definitely something to watch going forward.
