Last year there was talk that Clemson’s entire starting D-line might declare for the NFL draft and ALL be drafted in the first round. Instead, they chose to all come back and dedicate the season to a Clemson national championship. I read that these young men literally took over practices and had meaningful discussions with any player they thought needed motivation at practice.
Dexter Lawrence goes 6-5, 340 lbs. Strong as an ox. He can not be moved. The inside dive on ZoneRead plays does not exist, so the Clemson DEs can run wild and clean up on the QB.
Christian Wilks 6-4 , 315 lb DT that is so agile that he has played in the backfield and taken direct snaps on fake punts. The most amazing - Clemson has positioned him as a hybrid LB/safety against spread teams using bunched receiver formations. Let that sink in. The All American grad student, gave up 1st round draft money to come back for this moment. He wanted a National championship for Clemson. Until last night, he was most proud of his Campbell Trophy (called the Academic Heisman) for football’s best scholar athlete.
