This is sort of the point, isn't it? Switching business models is damn-near impossible and, unless you have the resources of WSJ or NYT, no media companies have successfully switched their value creation model. I agree that some people will pay for content, I disagree that anyone who receives something for free today will pay for that same thing tomorrow - especially if it is delivered in the same package.
Other companies - startups - who are not bound by incumbent strategies, cost structures, etc will pop up with more modern business models and - most important value/cost structures - and hire the content creators and make a real go of it.
