Will ASU Poly and/or ASU West ever become stand alone universities? The state has next to zero athletic opportunities at 4 year public universities...the only state Arizona has more than is Wyoming and per capita it's far lower than Wyoming...pretty pathetic.
Why not allow ASU Poly to have a D3 or NAIA athletics program and play in the same conference as Benedictine, Ottawa AZ, or AZ Christian...wouldn't be for a lack of in area competition. There's three in state right there. Add some of the smaller schools in New Mexico and a ton of them in California and you have lots of close by competition. Allow ASU West to have a D2 program and play in the CCAA with all the state schools in California. UC San Diego will be moving up to D1 soon, adding a school in the Phoenix market for the CCAA would be a no brainer to replace losing the San Diego market. Plus they are about an hour closer to the SoCal schools in the CCAA than ASU Poly.
JC athletic competition in the state is great but there should be post high school opportunities at each (or at least at most) levels of competition in state for Arizona student athletes.
