That's awesome and I remember how competitive that summer league was. To answer your question-
We were told at the time the decision to terminate the program was strictly financial (travel budget) but in reality they actually wanted the prime piece of land that was our ball field, to build a state of the art indoor swimming facility, which they did.
Turned out to be a bunch of BS because once they axed the program, they ended up having to bring on Men's Hockey to satisfy Title IX, which cost them a six figure hockey budget vs our smaller budget. Bottom line was they just didn't want baseball at NAU anymore.

It was a bizarre situation because once they publically announced the death penalty for the program, you'd actually have the visiting head coaches from say New Mexico State, Chapman, Laverne, Grand Canyon etc, out on the field personally recruiting and talking to eligible NAU players, during "our" pre-game BP time. :/...weird.
