Gonzo tried to go strength against strength. 6 DBs against their passing game.
The old adage about taking what the defense gives you apparently doesn't apply to the Pirate. Most coaches faced with 5 men in the box would run the ball.
The running game is certainly not their strength on O, but if he had "taken what the defense gave him", it would have been interesting to see how we handled the run & if it took us out of that defensive scheme. They only popped one good run I recall.
Interesting game schematically, on that side of the ball anyway.
We miss Wren up front for sure, though the DL has made some plays. The good news is we cover pretty well on the back end, which frees up the linebackers some to add pressure.
work in progress, but whatever our weaknesses are as far experience & skill gaps, we are 5-1, 1 game from bowl eligible, ranked #17 nationally, have 2 road wins against ranked teams, and several of our remaining games are winnable.
The prospects a couple years out look really good, and we are finding a way to win now, despite the youth movement. Enjoy the ride, "seriously" :-)
