I called it with my score prediction. My margin of victory by Utah was almost dead on. My only mistake was not taking the weather into account and how dominance of both defenses.
Jayden Daniels looked like a scared freshman - tucking the ball as soon as trouble appeared. Total happy feet by the end of the 1st quarter. And can you blame him? He was getting chased or hit just about all night. His instincts were correct - running more was the solution. (Too bad Likens didn't get the same vibe).
The OLine got worked over the worst I've seen since 2004 when Suggs manhandled Iowa in SDS, or way back to the '96 Nebraska game when Derrick Rodgers was in the backfield most of the night.
And 100% agreed about the defense. Those are a lot of underclassmen playing for ASU, and they shut down Utah while getting ZERO help from the offense. They contained #2 for most of the night.
While the OLine gets an F- in pass protection, they did marginally OK with run blocking and sprung Eno quite a few times. They should've ditched the passing game by the mid-3rd quarter and ran right at them (past the DE rushers) - and used passes as a changeup.
If a coach can take the blame, it's Likens.
I don't recall a screen being run to slow down the pass rush, BTW. The only bubble screen I recall was batted down by a DE.
The biggest blunder/miss of the game, IMO, wasn't the penalties that kept Utah drives alive or dropped INT opportunities. It was the overthrow of a wide open Aiyuk on a slant in the red zone.
