Not sure about the answer but here is my guess.
1) Don't think the staff knew that Robertson would be a no show. We expected an all-senior OL to be a team strength before the season. Didn't expect senior Cote to break foot either.
2) Staff is attempting to re-build and to get off of the JC merry-go-round they likely felt they needed to begin developing frosh linemen rather than bringing in JC players who are gone by the time they finally become proficient. This early development is especially critical for OL.
3) Availability of quality players and their desire to play here may have also been a factor.
To properly rebuild we needed to begin recruiting and developing freshmen. Unfortunately that takes 3-4 years to pay real dividends but it is better over the long term.
