I agree, these attributes are important. But when the opposing DT has all those attributes plus has 60 lbs on the OG, the OG does not stand a chance. The line does not have enough healthy seniors to man the positions. It has no Juniors to coach. It has no real Soph candidates. This problem is not going away very soon. Inserting Cote at OG was an admission of the problem. On a couple snaps it appeared that he was hardly able to get out of his stance before the DT charged by. And even if he was fit and well trained, Cote only offered 13 lbs more than West to fend off the Utah 335 lb monster DTs. A better move might have been to slide Miller inside to RG and play Hemsley at LT. Miller does not have the footwork to play OT and square up against a speed rushing DE. He should go back inside where he played most of last year.

Freshmen and RS Freshmen will eventually develop. Last year Edwards acknowledged that both lines needed more size and length. A number of 6'5" - 6'7" linemen were brought in, but they need to develop - both strength and technique. I'm a little puzzled by the 6'3" candidates we have recruited this year. At that height and arm length, they are destined to play inside, but all will need to add 30 to 40 lbs to be effective OGs. This might not be a step backwards, but it is not a step forward.
