This is why I think we're being a bit harsh with Likens. It seemed like whatever we did, much like the Dutch boy who tried to plug the dike, it would open up other opportunities for Utah's complete defense to exploit. Utah had the perfect personnel to fully exploit our OL weakness. I don't know how we're going to solve next year's problem unless some of these guys grow up fast.
We do have some young players with some size but they're young and need to gain more muscle and develop their skills. I think we have enough scholarships available to over recruit the OL and perhaps this is why we're accepting some smaller specimens. Maybe we can find someone in the transfer portal. Hopefully Christensen, Mawae, Lewis and Edwards are a good judge of talent. They should be. ASU does not yet have a good rep for OL prospects and yesterday certainly didn't help. It takes time to turn an aircraft carrier. We're not done recruiting yet. I'm sure the coaches understand the problem. Unfortunately, we're all getting older and we want results now. I get that.
Not sure Hemsley is a better option at LT. I'm guessing that that evaluation has been made by the folks above my pay grade and I'm beginning to trust their judgement.
The tackle positions require a certain quickness to deal with many of today's rush ends (as we unfortunately witnessed yesterday) and that is often not available in many big men. Is Z. Robertson still eligible to play next year?
I was also hoping we could redshirt TE Nolan Matthews but I noticed him in the game for a play or two yesterday. Not sure how many games he's played in so far.
It's a tough conundrum for sure.
