In the last 25 years, ASU has played a lot of midwestern teams over the last 20+ years, mostly in home-and-homes. Notre Dame. Nebraska. Colorado (before they joined the conference). Iowa. Mizzou. Illinois. Northwestern. Purdue. Wisconsin. Michigan State... It's become a bit of, "Been There, Done That."
Now I wouldn't complain if ASU scheduled more Big 10 home and homes. And if they landed a home and home with one of the Big 3 from that conference (Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State) - I'd take those home-and-homes over any other in the country.
But the Pac-12 bowl matchups don't ever match up the best of the SEC against our conference - so we never get to see them play. And as for regular season games, who's ASU played from the southeastern states in that same time frame, from a Power 5 conference (no - UCF and the Ragin' Cajuns don't count)? Miami. Georgia. LSU (once). Texas A&M (once). And.. that's it. In retrospect, that home and home with Georgia was a major anomaly.
So if you can ever get one of those teams to do a home-and-home, that's a marquee event because those culturally-inbred teams don't play outside their own swamps very often. They stick to their own.
Imagine ASU/Florida. The Swamp. That would be an amazing road trip, gawking at all of the foreigners...
