....and it seems so obvious to me. You flatten out a defense and don't allow them blitz 5 OLs with 7-8 guys, or to create mismatches when you run out of power sets. You 'protect' true freshman offensive lineman by simplifying blocking assignments. And you force pass rush DE's (a la Bradley Anae) to stay in their gap instead of pinning their ears back and coming after your rather green and undersized QB. And did I mention you put the offense in your star RB's hands?
It's my considered opinion that Likens is either incompetent for his lack of preparation for success, or he's stubborn Either way, young offenses can benefit from 'circling the wagons' in this manner, and we're the number 109 offense in the country (or thereabouts) for a reason. And I don't subscribe to the 'our kids are young' BS. Coaches either put their players in position to succeed or they don't.
