I became an ASU fan in 1993, which coincidentally happened to line up with the end of ASU's nearly complete hegemony over Oregon State since joining the conference. I remember being up in Flag with DevilDave waiting to go to an NAU game and listening to ASU get manhandled by the Beavers on the radio. That just never happened until that year, and Oregon State has been an unpredictable pain in the ass ever since - giving ASU unexpectedly close games in Tempe when they weren't supposed to be, and beating ASU in Corvallis.
Over those last 26 seasons, ASU has won there only four times:
-- 1996 (The 9-0 Rose Bowl team had to come back after being down at the half. They ran back a kickoff for a TD to open the 2nd half and that finally woke the Devils up).
-- 1997 (The eventual Sun Bowl champs won by only three, on the backs of their great defense).
-- 2005 (This underrated and VERY unlucky ASU team played at 100% and pulled off the rare, dominant win up there.)
-- 2017 (The Beavers were AWFUL that year, ending at 1-11 - and ASU still didn't cover the spread.)
Other factors suggest OSU rolls ASU easily.
* ASU on a three game losing streak.
* The Beavers are showing signs of life after a couple of dark years.
For some reason, however, ASU wins this one. Maybe it doesn't rain, or if it is raining, they will be better prepared for it mentally than they were at Utah. Maybe it's their "play for 60 minutes", Herm-instilled demeanor. Maybe whomever plays QB will be looking to make their case at the position.
Or maybe it's just karma, with Hudson even making the winning catch this time, kinda like Brent Miller surprisingly did at Washington back in '06 (one of Rudy Carpenter's most awesome game endings in his career, but I digress...)
Who knows why, it just makes sense.
ASU 26, OSU 19
