He had to trust his defense in any outcome

There were 3 possibilities, being up 1 if he made the 2 pt conversion, tied if a 1 point conversion, or down one, if the 2 pt conversion or kick didn't succeed (more likely with the 2 point attempt).

In all 3 outcomes, he had to trust his D to stop the FG if tied or up 1, get the ball back if down 1. The offense OSU would run would have to be more aggressive if they were down one, less aggressive if they were up 1, just running out the clock, and in between if tied.

Not sure his explanation makes much sense. If he thought he had a high probability play in his back pocket, one likely to work, I'd agree with the call, but the play they chose, after watching it several times, reading your thoughts, etc, seems like it was a pretty weak low probability choice. Maybe if JD had rolled right, but he didn't.

I expected them to spread it out, target a proven playmaker, or maybe run the Sparky & try to power it in off a direct snap. The play chosen never had a chance.
