Edwards comments on the two point decision:
I just felt like weÕre on the road, I told the football team, ÔIÕm not playing to lose. I donÕt play to lose.Õ We fought uphill this whole game and I just thought at the end when we got in there I said, ÔIf you score, weÕre going for two.Õ I said that when we had the ball on the 40. I said, ÔWeÕve got to go for two.Õ WeÕre a young football team and theyÕve got to learn how to win. You canÕt sit there and go, ÔOh, ok. IÕll kick it.Õ ItÕll be a tie game and then all of a sudden you kick it off to them and they have to drive the ball down and they kick a field goal and youÕll be sitting there thinking you didnÕt give yourself a chance. I wanted to put pressure on them to say, ÔOK weÕve got to score it and if we score it then youÕre going for two.Õ That gives you energy as a defense. I donÕt second-guess myself on that. YouÕve got to play to win, man. IÕm not coaching here to lose games. WeÕre trying to win and weÕre trying to create a program where I think if you ask any player, they knew I was going to go for two. They knew it. It was like, ÔYeah, coach. WeÕve got to go for it.Õ I said, ÔThatÕs what I thought.Õ You canÕt play scared. You just canÕt do that. It was a pretty entertaining game and we entertain people. WeÕve been entertaining the last couple of weeks. You know, we lose a game by a point. We got to get over the hump and weÕve to find a way.Ó
From Wikipedia on Edwards NFL history:
In a game against the San Diego Chargers on November 9, Edwards opted to go for a 2-point conversion to win (rather than tie the game) after the Chiefs has scored a touchdown to bring the score to 20Ð19. The controversial decision backfired, as the two-point conversion attempt failed, resulting in another loss. He was fired January 23, 2009.
