The election to pass the proposition to change the NAME ONLY was Nov. 4, 1958, the game that year was played on Nov. 22, 1958.
Can you explain how did the election for a name change to “UNIVERSITY” affect the quality of the team just 18 days latter?
Was it Magic? Did ASU get all new players?
Can’t explain it can you? So, how can you count that win? Since it was the SAME “COLLEGE” team 19 days earlier?
Plus, ASC didn't became ASU until December 5, 1958, 13 days AFTER the game! When Governor Ernest W. McFarland signs the proclamation on December 5, 1958 for name change to "Arizona State University."
So why claim the 1958 game??
Or '59 or '60 or '61?
How long does it take to become a University?
The snap of your fingers? Then there was no difference.
