If I remember correctly both games were in Tempe because when scheduled years in advance ASU was coming off the 1975 undefeated season was a hot commodity, and Florida State was trying to resurrect its program under Bobby Bowden so the deal was for both games to be played in Tempe. The Seminoles had already played in the Orange Bowl and beat Nebraska in the 1979 season and I think had a really good team in 1981. ASU had the 10-2 1982 team but squandered that momentum. The irony of the scheduling was Frank Kush was gone and Bobby Bowden had already made a name for himself in Tallahasse coming from West Virginia. In 1983, I think the FSU quarterback actually lost his eye contact on the final drive and the Seminoles scored late on a touchdown pass to win 29-26. In 1984, Florida State won like 52-44 in a shootout and I think Van Raaphorst threw for 532 yards. Of course, that was the year ASU was ranked number 1 on the cover of Sport magazine (Daryl Clack) only to lose the opener to Oklahoma State 45-3 in Tempe. I can't recall if Barry Sanders was on that Cowboy team.
