They always played tons of tough road games in bowdens first decade or so there, to make a name for themselves. And boy did they ever.

They played at Nebraska 4 times without a single return game in tallahassee (went 2-2). 2 games at ASU in 83-84 (went 2-0), though they did play a quasi home game in 79 when they squashed ASU 31-3, that FSU team went 11-0 in the regular season but lost to Okla in the orange bowl. FSU played 5 years in a row at LSU (winning 4) from 79-83. In 1981 FSU played 5 consecutive road games against pretty much the whose who of college football - (order may be off): At nebraska, At Ohio State, At Notre Dame, at LSU, at Pitt (when pitt had Dan Marino and were winning 10+ games regularly) in what is undoubtely the toughest 5 game stretch in the history of college football. I'd sure like to see one tougher.

I've always respected Bowden and FSU for being such road warriors. For this game, neither program is where they need to be, though being mediocre is something ASU fans are more used to than FSU fans are, obviously.
