Boise St has been known for a more unpredictible and 'offensive' offense. His work with 'less than 4-star QBs at BSU has been very impressive.
Likens loves bubble-screening his way down the field, NO TE at all to speak of (and they drop the ball the 1-2 times they are actually thrown to), calling 4-5 yard plays on 3rd and more than 4-5 yds and of 'taking what the defense gives' instead of demanding and achieving what 'we want'. Then, word-slicking his way through news conferences to explain.
The great offenses in America find ways to clear the paths for themselves. I am pleased that our QBs will have more strategies and plans to have that happen with this coach.
Why would Christensen agree to coach such an almost dead position that ASU's TEs have become? In Likens' offense, they are not much more than skinnier tackles anyway? I do hope to see them used as a real option next season.
Mawae is an immense addition to ASU Football in many ways. Much like Coach Lewis is. Perhaps he is not ready to coach per se, but is receiving great guidance in a very fine structure Herm/Ray et all have built these last two seasons.
Optimism is higher with a proven BSU offensive mind over the stale and predictable offense ASU had this season. Herm wants a 10-pt improvement. Here's hoping we all see it.
