The NFL model that you're so concerned about having coaches with no NFL experience, is simply about preparing these kids to find a career in the NFL and not being overwhelmed by everything outside of the white lines when they get there. It's more about modeling preparation, time management, accountability, and everything that the professionals do at the NFL level. It has nothing to do with teaching NFL play calling and schemes. I don't know if many Sun Devil fans realize this, but the ASU "NFL model" is akin to a "trade school" for gridiron players.

It's still college football. So, I'm sure that Herm realizes that the Xs and Os need to handled by successful college coaches. Plus, once you've had experience as coach in the NFL, the recruiting trail is very unappealing. That's why you have Dan Gonzales and Zak Hill as Herm Edwards' co-ordinators.
