DG is a very good coach and a solid man. He was the DC while my son played offense at SDSU.
Our three worst defensive performances this year happened while his mom was sick and he was torn between the realties of life and football. He did a great job managing both through what was undoubtedly a traumatic time.
I wish his the best at UNM and he is going to succeed wherever this road takes him. Sure wish he would have stuck around long enough to be considered for our HC position down the road.
Pierce is also a good coach and I am certain he will do a good job as well. However, he is untested as a DC and game time play caller. Time will tell. Our bowl game is coming soon.
Unfortunately, ASU continues to be a stop over for assistant coaches. CTG had several very successful assistants that were lured away with other coaching positions. We had a big fall off on offense after Norvell and others left.
What is Anderson's grand plan for keeping this from happening in the future. I thought consistency was part of the reason he hired CHE. We are in the exact same position now. Good up and coming OC and DC's come to ASU, then they take HC positions with other programs.
DG's departure is not a surprise. However, I thought Anderson had a larger plan in place to be able to keep DG around with the promise of the HC in a couple of years. Cleary not the case. Rinse. Repeat. Sure wish Anderson could work his magic by making our baseball coach disappear. The only coach that will will still be here when they turn the light out. Haha.
