I found an article discussing this depressing fact. The story compared the talent level of current and frequent Fiesta Bowl teams to that of ASU. - -
Ohio State, according to a data set compiled by ESPN, has more than 50 players who’ve appeared in an NFL game this year.
Clemson has 35.
Penn State and Oklahoma each have 37. Included among those totals are dozens of interior linemen. Ohio State has 14. Oklahoma has nine. Penn State and Clemson have put out eight each.
Those numbers point clearly to a problem that has kept ASU from breaking a Fiesta Bowl drought that’s going on 40 years. Only 13 Sun Devils have seen NFL action in 2019. [Two are a kicker and a punter.] Of that group, only three are interior linemen, none of whom can be solely credited to Todd Graham, who led the program from 2012-2017. - -
Then the article talked of Edwards putting more emphasis on NFL size lines and higher skill position talent. - -
It would put ASU in position to compete with programs such as Stanford (32 pros, six interior linemen) and Washington (35 pros, eight interior linemen), which have represented the Pac-12 in the Fiesta Bowl over the last decade. Edwards and his staff have to execute, but the program-building strategy holds promise. - -

Well SOMETHING better hold promise! After reading the article, I realized that I have spent half my life waiting for ASU to reappear in a local bowl game that was create for its benefit.
