It is relevant because Hurley is often compared to Sendek by the Hurley worshippers. Senek's teams twice were #1 seeds in the NIT pre 2011 (2008 and 2010), meaning under a 68 team format he would have had two more appearances. This would have put his resume at 4 NCAA tournament appearances in 9 years and five 20-win seasons in 9 years.
Or if the field never expanded then Sendek would still have 2 in 9 years and Hurley would have zero in 4 years (more than likely zero in 5 years after what I have seen this year).
In an even playing field it becomes debatable how much Hurley really has elevated the program.
