...post my Top 15 ASU football teams since 1970 (the first year that I started watching/ following ASU football). This is just my opinion, but perhaps it will get some good ASU football discussion going. Please, feel free to pick apart my selections, or add your own. Here goes:

#1) 1986 Rose Bowl team. They went 10-1-1 overall and played 7 teams with winning records. They went 6-1 in those 7 games, including beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. The down side is their one loss was to the U of A.

#2) 1996 Rose Bowl team. They went 11-1 overall and played 5 teams with winning records. They went 4-1 in those 5 games, including shutting out the two time defending national champion Nebraska Cornhuskers. The down side is they lost the Rose Bowl in heart breaking fashion to Ohio State.

#3) 1975 Fiesta Bowl team. They went 12-0 overall and played 6 teams with winning records. They went 6-0 in those games including beating a very good U of A team and upsetting a 10-1 Nebraska team in the 1975 Fiesta Bowl.

#4) 1982 Fiesta Bowl team. They went 10-2 overall and played 6 teams with winning records. They went 4-2 in those games including beating USC, and Oklahoma in the 1983 Fiesta Bowl. The downside is this team should've been ASU's first Rose Bowl team, but lost back to back games in late November to Washington and the U of A.

#5) 2013 Pac-12 South Champions and Holiday Bowl team. They went 10-4 overall and played 10 teams with winning records. This team played arguably the toughest schedule that any ASU team has ever played (Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Stanford twice, USC, Washington, Utah, etc.) ASU went 6-4 in those 10 games including wins over Wisconsin, USC, Utah, and Washington. The downside is they lost their last two games of the season in blow out fashion to Stanford and Texas Tech.

#6) 2014 Sun Bowl team. They went 10-3 overall and played 8 teams with winning records. ASU went 6-2 in those games with wins over Notre Dame, USC, Stanford, and Duke. The downside is they lost to Arizona with the Pac-12 South on the line, and got beat by a bad Oregon State team when ranked #6 in the country.

#7) 1970 Peach Bowl team. They went 11-0 overall and played 5 teams with winning records. ASU went 5-0 in those games with wins over Kansas State, Utah, New Mexico, and North Carolina.

#8) 1997 Sun Bowl team. They went 9-3 overall and played 7 teams with winning records. ASU went 4-3 in those games with wins over Washington State, Oregon, and Iowa. The downside is that they lost to the U of A, with a chance to share the Pac-10 title with WSU and Washington, and missed out on a Fiesta Bowl bid.

#9) 1973 Fiesta Bowl team. They went 11-1 overall and played 4 teams with winning records. ASU went 3-1 in those 4 games beating Arizona and Pittsburgh. The downside is that ASU lost to Utah in a game they should've won, but they turned the ball over way too many times.

#10) 2004 Sun Bowl team. They went 9-3 overall and played 6 teams with winning records. ASU went 4-2 in those 6 games beating Iowa, Oregon State, UCLA, and Purdue. The downside is they got blown out by USC and California, they also lost to a bad Arizona team in Tucson.

#11) 1971 Fiesta Bowl team. They went 11-1 overall and played 4 teams with winning records. ASU went 4-0 in those games beating Houston, New Mexico, and Florida State. The downside is they lost to Oregon State on the road to prevent an undefeated season.

#12) 1981 team that was on NCAA probation. They went 9-2 overall and played 6 teams with winning records. ASU went 4-2 in those 6 games with wins over Utah, Washington, San Jose State, and Arizona. The downside is they had tough road losses to Washington State and UCLA. This was a great offensive team with Mike Pagel at quarterback and a running back combination of Gerald Riggs & Robert Weathers. Also, a stud tight end in Jerry Bell. It's too bad they couldn't go to a bowl game.

#13) 1978 Garden State Bowl team. They went 9-3 overall and played 6 teams with winning records. ASU went 4-2 in those games with wins over eventual national champion USC, BYU, California, and Rutgers. The downside is this team had a blowout losses to Washington, and Washington State.

#14) 2007 Holiday Bowl team. They went 10-3 overall and played 5 teams with winning records. ASU went 2-3 in those 5 games with wins over Oregon State and California. The downside is this team had blow out losses to Oregon, USC, and Texas. This team would've been ranked much higher had they played more teams with winning records. After all, this team shared the Pac-10 Championship with USC.

#15) 1972 Fiesta Bowl team. They went 10-2 overall and played 4 teams with winning records. ASU went 3-1 in those 4 games with wins over Houston, and Utah. The downside is they lost to Air Force and Wyoming. The Cowboys didn't even have a winning record. This team had a great offense, but a bad defense. They gave up 39 to Air Force, 45 to Wyoming, 48 to Utah, and 35 to Missouri in the Fiesta Bowl.

Okay, Sun Devil fans, those are my top 15 ASU football teams since 1970. Feel free to pick them apart. Go Sun Devils!
