As a long time ASU fan and a proud '84 graduate, I have always felt Crowe is not doing what it takes to win in football at a high level.
The SEC model for the past 15 years has been to use football as the primary driver to gain national attention for all sports. It generates the majority of the sports programs revenues, fills stadiums, sell merchandise, entices prospective recruits and the general student body to be part of a "winning" program.
In Crowes approach, all sports are equal. This is a recipe for mediocrity and a sure way to fall behind all other conferences. Women's badminton may be an olympic sport but it is simply never going to be a revenue generator or an elite college sports brand builder.
This interview with Crowe is telling and supports what is obvious to every ASU football fan. Our coaches and players are doing everything they can to win, but Crowe and Ray are not. In their world Football = badminton.
"...But weĠre not going to buy in to the endless model of whatever it takes, whatever happens, this sport is more important than these other sports..."
