When I was in Vietnam I was an enlisted forward air controller w the infantry. Truely a third of the casualties that I saw, wounded or killed, were the result of non enemy events.
There was always chaos. A mortar tail assembly fell off and the round tumbled into fellow Marines, killing and wounding several, was simply tragic and one example of the terrible costs of war.
The SOBs that tried to glorified his death by altering the reality sickened me. The whole lot of them should have been required to resign or discharged from duty.
Pardon my rant but even after all these years, I still feel rage when I relive the way the brass tried to alter the truth.
