Have to agree that Sumlin and Mazzone ruined Tate. Watching games from Tate's sophomore break-out year, and he was electric. He actually did a good job of reading progressions and he wasn't afraid to tuck and run at all. There were also a handful of QB run plays that were called.
The last two years with Sumlin/Mazzone, Tate was taught to always go through progressions and only run as a last resort. I though Tate was over-thinking and not letting his natural ability shine. And Mazzone rarely called any designed QB runs.
Had RichRod stayed, I believe Tate would have had a better career in Tucson, and may have been drafted third day as a project. I agree that Sumlin and Mazzone ruined Tate, and it doesn't bode well for Arizona Football's future. Sumlin has a history of taking great talent and leading them to mediocre results at Texas A&M. At Arizona, Sumlin's doing a similar job of taking mediocre talent and turning that into bad results.
